Behringer has shared an early design for its first standalone DJ controller, outlining plans to develop the device using open-source hardware without proprietary restrictions.

The German audio equipment manufacturer just revealed the concept in a Facebook post, showing images of a prototype with the word ANIMA engraved on its front and back. The company indicated an expected price range of $300 to $400.

“The DJ industry is about to change forever,” reads the company’s announcement. “Our vision? To make powerful DJ technology accessible to everyone and unleash the creativity of millions.”

The proposed open-source approach would allow users to develop and share their own software for the device. Behringer has previously introduced another open-source project, the Kick sampler, making its software available through GitHub.

A release date, production schedule, and official model name have yet to be announced.
